We need to do better.

I asked a mentee yesterday why she has no LinkedIn profile picture; and initials for a name. I was about to give her a lecture on the importance of networking. 

Her response shocked and humbled me. 

She said it was because when she did have a real profile picture and name, she would constantly receive inappropriate messages -- guys asking to date her, or worse. 

I was so embarrassed that I had even asked the question that way. 

I was angry that that was her experience. 

I was humbled by how much I don’t know, and how much I take for granted. 

We need to do better. 

I need to do better. 

This is awful — and I’m sorry for my ignorance of a painful daily experience for many women 💔
