Common misconceptions about food banks — in this case, the SF-Marin Food Bank:
- When we think of food donations, we tend to think of canned and processed foods. But 60% of SF-Marin Food Bank’s deliveries are fresh produce.
- When we think of the primary recipients of food bank services, we tend to think of the unhoused. But 85% of SF-Marin Food Bank’s deliveries go to others: seniors living alone, children in poverty, and families who need just that little bit of extra help.
- The SF-Marin Food Bank has about 350 full time staff. But every single day, it also has about 350 volunteers helping with packing, deliveries, and other services.
Volunteering is not just nice or kind — it’s core to making the whole system work.
We — Splunk’s mighty Corporate Legal team — had a wonderful time volunteering at the SF-Marin Food Bank yesterday. It was actually the best run volunteer experience I have ever had. Thank you to all the amazing staff and colleagues, Geoffrey Wright, Mary Anne Becking, Molly Silver, Rachel Evenson, Kate Bobovski, Iyadeh Davies, Connie Wu, Derron Sims Jr. 💗
