One of the most incredible stories I’ve ever come across.
Juliane went on to earn a PhD and become a mammalogist.
Years later, in When I Fell From The Sky, Juliane wrote, of the moment her plane broke in half mid-sky, “I hear my mother saying quite calmly: “Now it’s all over.” Today I know that at that moment she had already grasped what would happen. I, on the other hand, have grasped nothing at all.”
Sometimes, not knowing the worst case gives us hope.
And that hope itself saves us from the worst case.
