Great lesson I learned last year from coach Edward Mwelwa:
Having an intention to do something is not the same thing as having a plan to do it.
I was having a difficult relationship with a coworker, and I had the intention to “stand up for myself.”
But I didn’t have a plan.
Coach Eddie asked, “what would you do in your next meeting if your coworker did X?”
“At what point will you stop them?”
“What are you going to do between now and your next meeting to prepare?”
“What exactly will you say in your response?”
These questions made me realize that I had just an intention, not a plan.
An intention to run a marathon may get you started; but a plan is what will get you through the finish line.
Have a plan, not just an intention!
