The most common manager mistakes, according to The Manager's Handbook, by Alex MacCaw:
1. Heroing: Doing your team's work on their behalf.
2. Not prioritizing hiring: Slow hiring leads to a vicious cycle of managers doing too much IC work, not having enough time to work on hiring, and then having to do more IC work.
3. Not acting fast enough when someone isn't working out: If you are not making a change that clearly needs to be made, you're creating an unfair environment for the rest of the team, because they are shouldering additional burden.
4. Ruinous Empathy: Makes managers sugarcoat feedback in an attempt to make people feel better.
