Great leaders elevate us from thinking about what we CAN, to what we WANT.

Great leaders elevate us from thinking about what we CAN, to what we WANT.

—————

A couple of weeks ago legendary football club Barcelona sacked their manager, Ronald Koeman.

Explaining the change, 22-year-old defender Oscar Mingueza made this astute and interesting observation.

“The team stopped believing in the idea and everyone tried to solve their own things," Mingueza said.

"We weren't good individually or collectively. When the dynamic is not good, everyone does what they can, but we didn't believe in what we wanted, either.”

Think about that in the company context: When things aren’t good, everyone starts thinking about themselves — what they can do to protect their own turf, not get in trouble, keep their job, etc.

But when the company has a clear mission & purpose, and great leadership, everyone can think beyond what they can do, to what they want to do.

Great leaders elevate us from thinking about what we CAN, to what we WANT.

Go Barca!
