A nice little take-away from a lecture by Patrick Lencioni on his classic Five Dysfunctions of a Team:
Conflict in an organization, without Trust, is Politics.
Conflict in an organization, with Trust, is the Pursuit of Truth.
Trust is a fundamental necessity for healthy conflict. Without it, conflict just devolves into politics.
Another nice takeaway was that Accountability should be, first and foremost, AMONG PEERS -- not top down.
